Combined Trail Training consists of: a Patterns Phase, a Trail Obstacle Phase, and an optional Trail Ride Phase (not judged). The Patterns and Obstacles are judged on a scale of 1 to 10 with a score-sheet provided to each competitor upon completion. The score sheet gives you your score, plus comments from the judge on each movement that will help you target what to work on to improve your skills. The goal is to improve your scores as you progress through the series. Prizes will be given for the Top Scoring Horseman at each level in each Event, as well as for the Highest Scoring Horseman of the Series and to the horseman with the Most Improved Score of the Series.
There are four levels of competition: Introductory Level (Walk/Trot Straight Lines, Figures of Eight; Halt and Back Up) – Preliminary Level (adds canter and beginning lateral work) – Intermediate Level (adds some collected and extended gaits, simple change of leads at canter) – Advanced Level (adds hand gallop, more lateral work, flying change of leads, halt/canter transitions and more collection in all gaits). Obstacles get progressively harder at each level.
